General Entacher Takes Over as New Chief of Defence Staff
Following the retired General Roland Ertl, General Edmund Entacher has taken over as the Chief of Defence Staff of the Austrian Armed Forces. The 58-year-old General graduated from the Theresan Military Academy in 1974 and has since undertaken a wide number of roles. Entacher has served as company commander and as S3 of an infantry brigade in Tirol and then later attended the General Staff Course in Vienna.
Higher Commands
From 1982 to 1992, Entacher was assigned to the Military Academy in Wiener Neustadt. In 1992 he took command of the 3rd Mechanised Brigade and in 2002 he was appointed commander of the newly installed Land Forces Command in Salzburg. More recently, Entacher joined the Ministry of Defence as the advisor to the minister on reserve forces affairs.
Principal Military Advisor
General Edmund Entacher is well respected throughout the forces from soldiers of all ranks. He is the tenth officer to become Chief of Defence Staff. In his new post he is the principal military advisor to the Minister of Defence and to the National Security Council.
