Austrian Flight Crews Take Part In European Helicopter Training

06 June 2011 -

Between 24 May and 12 June, Austrian Air Force helicopter crews take part in the exercise "Italian Call 2011". The exercise takes place at Viterbo, north of Rome, and is part of the European Defence Agency's helicopter training programme.

Successful Exercise

The aim of the exercise is to train European crews and staff to operate in hot, dry and dusty environments and to practice procedures that might be required in future crises response operations.

"Training in an international environment works well for us", says Colonel Hans Mittermair, officer in charge of the Austrian delegation. His summary: "For us, the exercise can be seen as fully successful."

Joint Effort

About 30 helicopters are involved in the training, with Italy providing half the fleet. The three Austrian AB-212 crews train together with teams from Belgium, the Czech Republic, Germany and Slovenia.
