"Amadeus 2012": Armed Forces Conduct Evacuation Training
On Monday, the Austrian Armed Forces began their annual "Amadeus" Air Force training. The two week long exercise involves some 2,300 soldiers and a wide variety of aircraft. Thus, making it this year's biggest training effort.
Multinational Environment
"Amadeus 2012" is based on a fictitious peace keeping mission. The training will mainly take place around Langenlebarn and Allentsteig in Lower Austria. To simulate the specific challenges of a multinational deployment, the exercise is joined by five German aircraft and Bundeswehr personnel.
Evacuation of Citizens
In the days ahead, air force elements will enforce a no-fly zone, while soldiers and special forces will be called in to evacuate Austrian citizens from the (fictitious) conflict area.
Ready to Go
"For the next years, I expect an increase in operations of this kind", says Brigadier Karl Gruber, who is in charge of the training. With the ongoing exercise, Gruber intends to further improve the interoperability of the participating forces, making them ready for any possible mission in the future.
