New DA-40 Training Aircraft for the Austrian Armed Forces
On Zeltweg airbase, the Austrian Armed Forces received two of in total four DA-40 aircraft of Diamond Aircraft Industries. The hand-over ceremony took place in the presence of the Austrian Minister of Defence Mario Kunasek and the Austrian Minister for Transport, Innovation and Technology Norbert Hofer.
The aircraft will be used for the following tasks:
- Cost-efficient, practical flight aptitude selection testing,
- cost-efficient instrumental flight rules training for military pilots,
- cost Savings through less flight hours on more cost-intensive training aircraft.
Particular attention in the training aircraft selection was paid to easy and forgiving flight handling characteristics and good visibility of the student for the flight instructor. Another important aspect was the implementation of a single fuel concept, meaning every aircraft type of the Austrian Armed Forces can be fueled with the same type of fuel.
