Abstract:

Juan Barros Madrid, Military Bishop of Chile, emphasized that the service with the armed forces in his country is carried out particularly by volunteers. For many of them, the service opens up career opportunities, training possi-bilities, social contacts and health support. It is important to recognise that life is given to humans by God. Military pastoral care, therefore, has to make a particular effort to familiarise soldiers with the "dialogue of salvation”. Love is the central notion of the Gospel and especially in military operations, one has to embrace love, according to the motto: "Where there is no love, give love, and you will receive love." Military pastors and priests have to approach the soldiers, so that more people consider a Christian way of life.
