He holds a doctorate in political science from the European University Institute, Florence, a Masters Degree in International Relations from the University of East Anglia and a degree in Modern History from the University of Oxford.
From 1998—99 Deputy Director of the International Centre for Security Analysis at the Department of War Studies, King‘s College London and a Lecturer in European Security where he directed a major project for the UK Government on coalition doctrine.
He has been a Visiting Researcher at the Graduate Centre for International Studies, Geneva, as weil as an adviser to NATO.
At EU-ISS Lindley-French is responsible for transatlantic relations and the military aspects of European defence. Publications include Leading Alone or Acting Together?

Time to Bite the Eurobullet in which he called for a European Strategie Defence Review.
