Lebenslauf
He joined the Royal Netherlands Marine Corps in 1968 and has served since in various functions in the Marine Corps and the Navy.
Peacekeeping tours included command of the 1st Marine Battalion in Cambodia during the UNTAC Operation in 1993 and he was the A/COS Coordinator of the Multi-National Brigade of the Rapid Reaction Forces of UNPROFOR in 1995. He also
commanded the Joint Netherlands Task Group for Special Operations in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Major-General Cammaert was commander of the Multi National Stand-by Forces High Readiness Brigade for UN operations (SHIRBRIG) and Force Commander of the United Nations Mission in Ethiopia and Eritrea (UNMEE) from October 2000 until November 2002. Following that mission the UN Secretary-General appointed him as the Military Adviser, Department of Peacekeeping Operations, on 29 November 2002.
Currently (2004) he serves as Military Adviser to the Secretary General of the United Nations.
