Language training, especially English, and the use of English as a language for work and instruction has almost become a matter of fact in the AAF during the last few years. The command of foreign languages requires life-long and continuous learning.

Types of Courses:
Depending on didactic considerations and the students themselves, the following language courses are offered in the AAF:
Technical Terminology:
Specialised and/or technical (military) terminology in English and in other languages is a main part of our teaching efforts to help our soldiers communicate internationally, whenever exercise or missions call for command of the local language.In this field the Language Institute of the AAF co-operates closely with a number of national and international bodies.
Use of Foreign Languages:
- Required for interoperability
- Teaching of technical terminology for international soldiers who are to attend military courses in Austria
- Duty-related correspondence with and visits from non-German speaking countries
- Training of foreign language military analysts
Trainees:
- Career officers and officer aspirants must attend English courses, take a second language, and even a third one, if required
- Career NCOs must attend English courses and, if required, take a second language as well
- As required, civilian MoD personnel
- Short-term career soldiers and reserve soldiers as required
Types of Courses:

- Intensive courses (6-8 weeks)
- One-year language training programme (40-50 weeks)
- Final seminar for English beginners' correspondence courses (5 days)
- Intensive seminars English and French (3 days)
- Intensive days English and French (1 day per month)
- English tutorials
- Special courses and seminars
