This edited volume examines the Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP) within the broader context of borderland politics and centre-periphery dynamics across Afghanistan, Iran, Central Asia, and South Asia.
Rather than treating ISKP solely as a jihadist organization, it situates its emergence within the interplay of militant networks, state governance, minority relations, and contested borderlands.
The contributions address three interconnected themes: the ideological foundations and evolution of ISKP; the regional security dynamics linking Afghanistan with Iran, Central Asia, and South Asia, including recruitment networks, cross-border mobility, and transnational extremist ideologies; and the role of state institutions, borderland governance, and centre-periphery relations in shaping both militant mobilization and state responses.
Bringing together scholars and practitioners, the volume offers a multidimensional perspective on one of Eurasia’s most significant security challenges while contributing to debates on transnational militancy, borderland governance, and regional security.
